Learning the steps |
my experience |
When it comes to square dancing, it is important to remember the steps in order and stay in the same rhythm as the song. It is also important to be in sync with your partner to stay with the music. Square dancing always consists of four couples, each positioned on a different side to form a square. Each dancer starts by facing the center. The female positioned to a man's left is known as his "corner," and the man on the woman's right which is her corner. The couples are then numbered and move counterclockwise through the square. From then on the dance starts with a mixture of different dance steps like Handhold, Allemande Left, Ladies Chain, Opposite, Sets and Promenade.

I had a fun experience when it was my turn to learn how to dance. I met some fun people and had a great time with them. When learning the steps it was a bit hard to work in groups because sometimes we would get distracted or there was someone who would get confused. Other times memorizing all the steps in the right order was a bit hard for me. In this overall experience I had a great time learning how to square dance and talk to people i never thought i would.
